The European Electric Bicycle Association opposes the EU's anti low price sales policy. China has become a major producer and consumer in the world

Shanghai News, May 9th (Xinhua) -- At the large-scale Shanghai International Bicycle Exhibition held here in Asia, representatives from the European Light Electric Vehicle Association (LEVAEUROPE), which includes 20 European electric bicycle importers and some Chinese companies, stated that the EU's previous import registration action does not necessarily mean that anti low price sales will be established. Recently, the association will organize some importers and lawyers to refute and respond to the EU.

The EU customs started registering electric bicycles imported from China last week, increasing the risk of Chinese electric bicycles being subject to final tariffs. Yao Li, President of Taiwan Bell Group, the third largest electric bicycle manufacturer in China, stated that the company's original internationalization strategy will not be changed due to the EU's investigation into low price sales of electric bicycles. In the near future, the company will establish a European company and the next step is to produce electric bicycles locally in the EU.

As a company with an internationalization strategy, the impact of the EU anti sales investigation on us is still significant. However, our internationalization strategy will not be terminated due to the EU anti sales investigation, "said Yao Li. The company has decided to establish a European headquarters in the Netherlands to begin import and export trade related to electric bicycles. The next step will be to produce and assemble electric bicycles locally in the EU. Currently, the company's production address in Europe is still under further investigation.

Last May, senior executives of Taiwan Bell Group revealed that they planned to increase the company's overseas sales share from less than 5% to around 30% within three years, with Europe and Southeast Asia as the main overseas markets to explore in the short term.

It is reported that the EU's 2050 emission reduction strategy has a clear goal: by 2050, the EU will reduce emissions by 80-90% compared to 1990. Currently, European countries attach great importance to green travel, and the sales of electric bicycles in the region have doubled continuously in the past two years. Yao Li believes that although Europe is still not an important overseas market for China's electric bicycle industry and its export share is relatively small, it has enormous potential for future development, and Chinese companies must seize this market.

Last October, the European Union launched an investigation into the anti low price sales of electric bicycles in China. The European Association of Light Electric Vehicles has previously submitted a request to the European Commission to seek opinions from the European Organization of Electric Vehicle Importers, which has been approved. This means that the EU needs to seek the opinion of the European Organization of Electric Vehicle Importers on key issues related to handling this incident.

Hu Kaitie, the head of the China region of the European Light Electric Vehicle Association, introduced that according to the arrangement of the European Union, a temporary tax decision will be announced around July 20th, and the final result of the anti low price sales investigation will be announced by the EU between October and January next year. He believes that the EU's anti low price sales investigation against Chinese electric bicycles stems from local protection of local enterprises in EU countries.

Data shows that by the end of 2017, China had become a global producer and consumer of electric vehicles, with an annual production capacity of over 33 million vehicles and a social ownership of 250 million vehicles. However, while ranking first in global production and sales, overcapacity has also become a problem that troubles the development of the industry. In this context, electric vehicles going abroad and entering the international market have become an inevitable trend in the development of the industry.
